Riot Games has announced it will facilitate and produce its first VALORANT tournament called First Strike. This comes after the video game company launched the Ignition Series, which allowed third-party VALORANT tournaments, with an eye on gauging fan interest while looking at how best practices for the title are being developed. Play is set to start in October with additional details being set for release in the upcoming weeks.
The announcement by Riot tells those interested in participating that they should “start building and practicing with your rosters now” as the competition nears. With regional qualifiers starting in October and finishing in December, teams that have yet to form have just under a month to get ready. Teams with rosters that have already been practicing, now have an official publisher event to prepare for. Also, players 16 years and older who have earned a rank of Immortal 1 will generally be eligible to compete in the qualifiers, but Riot is advising those to “check the full rules and policy once they are released.”
First Strike will offer multiple regional finals taking place across North America, Europe, CIS, Turkey, Asia, Oceania, Brazil, and the Middle East.
Prizing for the tournament is to be announced.
